ROOM 232: HOTELS & ESCAPISM
ACCOLADES & HONORS: UCDA DESIGN AWARDS 2021 - AWARD OF EXCELLENCE | CREATIVE QUARTERLY 66 - RUNNER-UP, GRAPHIC DESIGN: PROFESSIONAL
Room 232 is a concept based publication that is centered around the metaphorical significance of hotels in current culture, highlighting the ideas of romance, rendezvous, and rejuvenation through the grand scope of escapism and liminal space. Hotels are places for people to realize their deepest desires and vulnerabilities without creating something of permanence. They allow access to glamour and creature comforts some may never again experience. They represent play, new experiences, and transition. Identities turn into room numbers and finger prints are washed away in anticipation of the next guest check in. Each chapter idea is represented through analytical text and conceptual imagery that relates back to “different states of being” (physical, mental, and emotional) that are present when one might stay at a hotel.
